Bill enjoys being outdoors, travelling, hiking, mountaineering, meeting new people, and protecting the environment. Bill comes from California but after 40 years he is thoroughly Coloradoan. He has been active in local politics and has served in local government, citizen boards and task forces.

Andrew is a Native of Colorado Springs and works as a Tax Professional with FORVIS and has a background in residential real estate. He has been involved with FOGG since 2022. He enjoys getting his family outside as much as possible.

Gary is a Colorado Native who has lived in Colorado Springs for over 55 years. He is a volunteer at the Garden of the Gods VNC. He has a background in commercial banking, real estate, and investments with extensive volunteer and board service list of community, city, and state activities.

Scott Hente

Activities & Past President

Scott has had an extensive background in both community activities and private business. A retired and decorated military officer, whose career included service in the 1st Gulf War, Scott went on to co-found a successful home building and residential development company. He was a member and President of the Colorado Springs City Council and the Colorado Springs Utilities Board of Directors, to include being its Chairman. Since his retirement form both public and private entities, Scott has served on various non-profit Boards and City Commissions.

Trails

Bob Chandler has been a volunteer at the Garden of Gods since 2018 and a FOGG Board member since March of 2019. As the Trails chair, Bob works with GoG Park Rangers and Rocky Mountain Field Institute staff to ensure that the wonderful 21 miles of trails in the Garden of the Gods are well maintained for the multitude of GoG visitors to enjoy. Bob has enjoyed biking and hiking in the GoG for over 50 years beginning when he was in the Air Force and graduate student at the University Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS).

Born in Up-state New York, grew up in California. Studied art and worked as an illustrator for an aerospace company and in the Army. Hold a private pilot’s license. Moved to Colorado in 1992 to work as a toy designer…retired in 2003. Dave has been a FOGG member and volunteer for over fifteen years.

Gillian spent four years with the Trails, Open Space & Parks program in Colorado Springs and served two years as the Leave No Trace State Advocate for Colorado. She has a passion for connecting people with nature to foster environmental stewardship and ensure the protection of our natural resources

Lauren has lived in Colorado Springs for the past six years and is passionate about the outdoors, community engagement, and local events. As an avid runner, Garden of the Gods is one of her favorite places to train and connect with nature. She is honored to join the Friends of Garden of the Gods board and is excited to support efforts that highlight and preserve this iconic park. Professionally, Lauren is the Marketing, Communications, and PR Manager for Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, where she helps bring some of the city’s largest and most cherished events to life—including the Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off and the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow. With a creative and community-driven mindset, she is dedicated to enhancing the region’s sports culture and economic vitality.

Cheryl Mahon
Secretary

Cheryl was born and raised on the shoreline of CT, moved to Northern VA after college, married and ten years later came to CO. She has lived here for 30 years now. One of her first loves in Colorado Springs was the Garden of the Gods. While always living on the west side, her current home is the closest to the Garden making a ten-mile bike circuit through the Garden a favorite morning activity. Cheryl has been employed in various areas including statistical software, high school educator, financial planner, and most recently as church administrator. She and her husband, Steve, have two adult sons. In addition to cycling, Cheryl enjoys hiking, knitting, gardening, and quilting. She loves how the Garden can be enjoyed year-round and is thrilled to be a FOGG member and serve on the board. She looks forward to learning more about the Garden and giving back to her community.
