FOGG has provided $25,000 per year to RMFI for trail maintenance! Thank you, FOGG members!

This spring the RMFI stewardship crew completed projects in the Central Garden area near the Three Graces and Cathedral Spires rock formations, along the Upper Loop trail, and on the Ute Trail. Here are just a few of the project highlights from our work in the spring:

Along the Upper Loop trail RMFI repaired timber staircases by adding steps or replacing damaged timbers. These improvements will make the stairs more comfortable for park visitors and decrease erosion damage caused by water flowing under the steps.

At the Three Graces and Cathedral Spires area a second tier was added to a large rock retaining wall, and another rock retaining wall was rebuilt where several rocks had fallen out. The RMFI crew is still working on building a new rock staircase that will make this area more accessible for park visitors.

On the Ute trail, our crew worked with volunteers to fill and grade over 200 feet of incised trail.

Volunteers helped by shoveling and carrying buckets of dirt and then tamping the surface of the trail. Doing this work will make this section of trail more sustainable by shedding water off the trail. From March-May RMFI hosted seven volunteer days, working with hundreds of volunteers.

These incredible volunteers helped in so many ways by shoveling dirt, hauling buckets, installing timbers, crushing rocks, moving rocks and planting grass seed. If you are interested in doing volunteer trail stewardship, please consider signing up for a community stewardship day with RMFI! Register and check out our calendar at www.rmfi.org/calendar .
